Strengthening Capacity to Cope with Climate Change and Increase Food Security

The ACT Forum in Haiti designed the joint program addressing climate change and disaster risk management. This joint project which was funded over the years by 8 members of ACT Alliance and LWR and its project partner Service Chretien d’Haiti (SCH), was appointed to manage it. The project aims to increase the awareness of civil society organizations and government bodies on climate change and disaster risk reduction as well as mobilizing communities to build resilience within these communities to increase food security.

Climate change is a major threat to Haiti in regards to livelihoods and food security. Moreover, the poor are the most vulnerable to the consequences of this phenomenon and their resilience and adaptation to this threat is low. Given this situation, the problem of climate change raises new and serious challenges economically, administratively and organizationally for farmers and other users of natural resources.

Because of the persistent challenges and risks of disasters have a negative influence on the process of development of the country, LWR has decided to combine their efforts and resources with the ACT Alliance Forum to launch a joint project on Climate Change and Disaster Risk Management. This project focuses on strengthening people’s resilience and capacity of community organizations and local authorities by encouraging local initiatives for adaptation to Climate Change and Disaster Risk Management. SCH, one of the two national members of the Forum, has been designated as the project executing agency.
